Superb Alpine Vernacular Cupboard from the Piedmont Region

A stunning piece of Alpine folk furniture from the Piedmont region of Northern Italy.

The cupboard retains all the irregularities, wear and traces of its long history. Naive and rustic in its craftsmanship, remarkably elegant in its proportions, with a quiet beauty and individuality that make it quite exceptional.

An early 19th-century mountain cupboard from Northern Italy, primitive in its construction yet remarkably elegant in its proportions. The richly patinated surface has mellowed into deep shades of burnt sienna, russet and warm amber, with areas of wear revealing the pale pine beneath.

The charming folk art scribed details frame the two doors. Original forged iron hinges, lock and key, together with a small wooden turn catch are all perfection.

Three simple wooden shelves and a deep storage space within the base. Roughly worked backboards reveal the honest craftsmanship of its mountain origins.

An exceptional piece of Alpine vernacular furniture.
