Rare Italian Monoxyl Oak Table, 18th Century

A rare Italian monoxyl oak table with a truly monumental single-slab top hewn from a magnificent tree. Rich in colour and character, the timber has acquired a wonderful patina through centuries of use.

Rich in colour and character, the timber displays exceptional grain, natural movement and a beautifully worn surface developed through centuries of use. The monumental slab is supported by substantial trestle ends joined by a pegged stretcher, creating a form that is both architectural and sculptural.

I love the huge original hand-forged iron bolts securing the top to the base - weathered and wonderfully primitive, they are works of art in themselves and a testament to the quality of the original construction.

Honest, soulful and incredibly difficult to find, this is a remarkable piece of Italian vernacular furniture - worth all the effort to bring it to T&H.
