A Rare English High-Back Comb Windsor Armchair. Circa 1800-1830

An exceptional early 19th-century English comb-back Windsor armchair, displaying the skill and individuality of the traditional country chair-maker.
The unusually tall, gently reclining back, finely shaped crest rail and sweeping arm bow give the chair its elegant, sculptural silhouette. Slender hand-worked spindles, a substantial elm seat and finely turned legs reflect the remarkable craftsmanship and understanding of timber.
The ash, elm and fruitwood have developed a rich, golden-brown patina, with softened edges, historic repairs and the marks of generations of use.
A rare survivor of English vernacular chair-making, combining strength, delicacy and extraordinary proportions.
A chair for people who are serious about chairs.
