Original Welsh Pig Bench with Incredible Patina

An original 19th century Welsh pig bench with a remarkable surface, shaped by generations of practical use.

The substantial single-plank top is covered in a dense network of old knife marks, cuts, indentations and wear, giving the timber a rich, deeply textured patina. Its softened edges, old fixing marks and irregularities are part of its history.

Four sturdy, splayed legs are joined by a long stretcher, with traditional pegged construction. The pale, dry surface of the legs contrasts with the darker, heavily worn top.

A solid, robust example of Welsh rural furniture, retaining the honesty and simplicity of its original purpose. Its compact proportions and strong sculptural form make it an excellent low lamp table or occasional table in a contemporary interior.
