Monumental English Baker's Table - Yorkshire, Late 19th Century

A magnificent and generously proportioned English baker’s table, sourced in Yorkshire and dating to the late 19th century.

The thick, scrubbed sycamore top has the most beautiful pale tone — softly burnished through decades of flour, dough and daily use. Sycamore was traditionally chosen in working kitchens for its tight grain and naturally antibacterial qualities; it is food friendly and wears very well. The fabulous surface has all the marks of a working life — honest, tactile, deeply characterful.

The base is constructed from dense pitch pine, rich and resinous in tone, it has good structural strength. The contrast between the pale sycamore and the warmer pitch pine is perfect.

Four deep, wide drawers run across the front, each still have the original heavy iron handles. The drawers are traditionally dovetailed and generously scaled — designed for flour sacks, cloths and kitchen tools — they all slide with a reassuring weight.

Raised on sturdy square legs, this is a table of real presence. Heavy. Architectural.

A showstopper!!

It would sit beautifully as a kitchen island, preparation table, or statement console in a large interior. At home in a traditional country kitchen or a contemporary space where texture and authenticity matter.
