Monumental 19th Century French Farmhouse Coffee Table

A monumental coffee table from France. Originally made as a substantial working surface, likely used in bread or cheese production.
The scale of the top, now elevated on a simple trestle base and held in place by heavy duty iron peg/bolts, give the piece a remarkable architectural weight.
Constructed from immense solid thick slabs of oak, the deep perimeter channel (the continuous carved gutter), the iron peg/bolt marks, and the extraordinary wear to the surface and edges tell the story of a rural French life, now reimagined in to a fabulous sculptural interior statement.
It sits equally well with pared-back contemporary interiors or layered, textural schemes.
