Late 19th Century Alpine Painted Folk Art Cupboard

A small yet striking Alpine folk art cupboard , richly carved and boldly painted, likely originating from the Alpine regions of Austria or Bavaria.
The base is softwood, the façade is deeply incised with rythmic geometric motifs - radiating lines, cross hatching and diamond forms carved in to the surface. These patterns were not purely decorative - in rural Alpine tradition the motifs were protective symbols, meant to guard the home and bring porsperity to those living within.
The simple plank top has a warm, natural patina, inside is a single shelf.
This piece may seem a departure for me , but I think it has a wondeful energy - bold but still rooted in vernacular craft.
