Late 18th Century Primitive Catalan Table in Solid Chestnut

A substantial late 18th century farmhouse table in solid chestnut sourced from the Catalan Pyranean borderlands between northern Spain and southern France.
The table/chest is mid-height, raised on strong stable legs, the top is made from fabulous thick hand-worked planks - originally for a working kitchen, used for food prep and for storage of linens, flour and household papers.
The deep drawers run smoothly from front to back. The beautiful hand-forged iron drop handles and escutchheons are all original , darkened naturally with age.
The surface of the top has a worn , softened patina from generations of daily use. Vernacular in construction, it has an architectural strength typical of rural Catalan furmniture of that period.
