Incredible 16th Century Coffer from the Catalan Region

An incredible, huge Catalan coffer made from thick slabs of chestnut with deeply carved decorative patterns to the base and sides.

Circa 16th century....a truly exceptional piece of Catalan folk art history which has survived many centuries.

The rich depth of colour and patination is superb.

There are some interesting ancient metal repairs at the back...presumably to stop the mice getting in.

The heavy decorative iron lock and hinges are all original.

Such an exciting find for me!
