Elm Vernacular Alpine Work Table from the Savoie Region

A remarkable vernacular Alpine work table, from the Savoie region of eastern France, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century.

Such tables were central to rural domestic life across eastern France and western Switzerland, particularly in Savoie and Haute-Savoie, where robust multi-purpose tables formed the heart of the working kitchen.

Crafted in a particularly beautiful cut of solid elm, this example is in exceptional condition. What truly distinguishes it is the extraordinary depth and variation of colour across the top — warm copper and deeper brown tones , the patina is exceptional.

Fitted with sliding drawers at each end, giving a generous central storage cavity beneath the top, alongside a single central drawer - a great design and clever use of space.

All the drawers run smoothly , the table is very sturdy.
