Elegant French Provincial Oak Chest of Drawers, c.1800
A beautiful French provincial oak chest of drawers, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century.
Of generous scale and well balanced proportions, the chest has a wonderful richness of colour - warm honey, amber and tobacco tones and a mellow patina developed over many years.
The craftsmanship and attention to detail are all there - from the finely shaped mouldings framing each drawer, the decorative brass escutcheons, panelled sides and elegantly scalloped apron. The gently shaped feet complete the design, giving the chest a refined yet understated character.
Two smaller drawers sit above three generous full-width drawers, offering excellent storage.
In good antique condition, though not perfect, with the expected wear, marks and irregularities of age, together with a few simple, honest repairs, all contributing to its character.
In good solid antique condition, together with a few simple, honest repairs - which just add to the story and character of this beautiful piece of furniture.
A very attractive, useful chest of drawers, with excellent scale, lovely detailing and a beautifully aged surface. Equally suited to a bedroom, sitting room or hallway.
