Charming French Fruitwood & Rush Country Bench, circa 1880

A charming French country bench, circa 1880, with wonderfully generous proportions and a beautiful warm, mellow colour.

A particularly lovely shaped back, with three broad wavy splats between slender uprights. Curved arms sweep gently outwards, supported by finely turned spindles - the simple legs and long stretchers give the whole piece a light, elegant feel.

The deep hand-woven rush seat is beautifully made and very generous at 58cm deep.

A lovely example of French country craftsmanship — simple, practical and well proportioned, with the natural wear and patina that comes with age.

Excellent condition throughout.
