Antique French Oak Country Kitchen Cupboard

A substantial early 19th century French provincial kitchen cupboard, constructed primarily in solid oak with its original hand-forged iron hardware.
Balanced and architectural in form, the piece has a full-width, deep upper drawer with a decorative iron escutcheon and simple iron pulls, above generous cupboards and internal drawers. All elements are typical of a solid working French country kitchen piece.
The oak has matured to a deep, rich brown, the surface has softened, gnarled edges. The top consists of thick oak boards with beautiful age cracks and fabulous historic wabi repairs (works of art), all adding to the strong, honest character.
This is a piece with great presence — honest, architectural and very practical. It would sit comfortably in a pared-back contemporary kitchen, boot room, dining space or studio setting.
A fabulous antique country cupboard - even better ‘in the flesh’.
France, early 19th century.
