A Rare Curved Elm Tavern Settle, c.1800

An astonishing, rare curved tavern settle, probably from the English West Country, dating to around 1800.
A sculptural, sweeping curve with shaped ends and substantial plank construction. The elm has extraordinary depth of colour, from warm golden brown to rich, dark tones.
Hundreds of years of use have softened the edges, old nail heads, and lovely old repairs all add to up to an interesting life. Remarkably, it still stands firm, sturdy and strong.
An astonishing survivor of rural vernacular furniture, with much of its historic surface intact.
