A Rare 1930s Metamorphic Artist's Table / Reading Stand by Blyth Hasel Ltd

A wonderfully ingenious metamorphic artist’s table, crafted in richly patinated mahogany and designed to fold completely flat when not in use.

The clever hinged mechanism allows the twin tops to be raised and angled independently, transforming the piece from a compact side table into a practical artist’s, reading or music stand. The lightweight yet remarkably sturdy frame is formed from a series of interlocking stretchers and pivots, showcasing the thoughtful engineering of the period.

Beautifully made throughout, with a warm, deep colour and attractive figuring to the tops, this is a piece that combines sculptural form with genuine functionality. When closed, it makes an excellent side table beside a chair or sofa.

Retaining its original maker’s label for Blyth Hasel Ltd, the table dates to the 1930s and remains in excellent original condition with a smooth working action.
