A monumental baker’s workbench, c.1900, of exceptional scale , with all the original working features.

The enormous sycamore worktop is particularly special, with a pale, naturally bleached surface marked by generations of use. Its old scratches, cuts and honest repair remain visible, giving the top wonderful texture and character.

Below, the substantial pine base provides extraordinary storage, with an arrangement of deep dovetailed flour bins, drawers and compartments, several retaining their original metal linings. Ingenious pull-out working shelves and bowl supports give an insight into how the bench would once have been used in a busy working bakery.

The construction is heavy and solid throughout, with substantial pine boards, large dovetailed bins and original iron handles. Years of use have left the pine bone-dry and naturally bleached, beautifully complementing the soft, pale sycamore above.
