19th Century Spanish Trestle Table with Dry Pale Patina

A 19th century Spanish country trestle table with a pale, timeworn surface and an unusually expressive base.
The substantial two-plank top has softened to a beautiful chalky, almost silvery beige, with traces of warmer timber beneath. Its dry surface carries the marks of generations of use, with irregular edges, old wear and subtle variations in tone.
The trestle base is particularly interesting, with splayed legs, diagonal braces and a long central stretcher. The shaped lower rails have a gently scalloped profile, adding an element of rural craftsmanship to the otherwise simple construction. The darker, weathered timber provides a pleasing contrast to the pale top.
An excellent example of Spanish vernacular furniture, combining practical construction with distinctive form and surface. Its generous length and relatively narrow proportions make it equally suited to use as a writing desk, console or occasional dining table.
